Implementation System

Marubeni has established the Sustainability Management Committee as a system to share and promote activities aimed at sustainability for the environment and society.

The Sustainability Management Committee was formed in April 2018 from a reorganization of the previous CSR & Environment Committee in order to strengthen sustainability initiatives. The Sustainability Management Committee is under the direct control of the President, and convenes several times per year, as needed. The company’s basic policies and measures for sustainability including identification and periodic review of the material issues with consideration of the ESG perspectives, climate change and the transition to low-carbon society, measures on conservation of biodiversity, as well as human rights in business and risk management in the supply chain are discussed, and reports are made to the Board of Directors. In addition, there are three committee members who are external directors or auditors, who act as advisors and provide an external point of view. The Sustainability Management Committee is directed by the President and CEO, and the Board of Directors provides oversight by receiving regular reports on the important issues that are discussed by the committee. The environmental management system functions that were the responsibility of the former CSR & Environment Committee, including the management reviews based on the requirements of the ISO 14001 standards, have been transferred to an Environment Committee, established under the Sustainability Management Committee.
