Inclusion in Leading ESG Investment Indices

Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World

Marubeni is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World. The constituents are selected as the top 10% of companies from the 2,500 largest companies worldwide, based on a comprehensive assessment of economic, environmental, and social criteria by Dow Jones & Company, Inc. (United States) and RobecoSAM AG (Switzerland). The constituents are reviewed every September. In 2017, a total of 320 companies in the world, including 31 from Japan were selected.

FTSE4Good Global Index Series

The FTSE4Good Global Index Series was developed by FTSE Russell*1, a global index provider, a part of the London Stock Exchange Group. Performance of companies are measured in biodiversity, climate change, human and labor rights, supply chain labor standards, anti-bribery measures, corporate governance, and other practices, and companies meeting the criteria are selected for the index. After June 2017 index review, 883 companies were selected from around the world, including 147 Japanese companies.

FTSE Blossom Japan Index, MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index

In July 2017, Marubeni was included in the FTSE Blossom Japan Index and the MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN).
The FTSE Blossom Japan Index, created by FTSE Russell, has been designed to provide market participants with a tool to identify and measure the performance of Japanese companies that demonstrate strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. FTSE Russell measures a company’s exposure to, and management of, ESG issues in multiple dimensions such as corporate governance, health & safety, anti-corruption, and climate change. This index has been constructed to be industry neutral compared with the Japanese equity market.
The MSI Japan Empowering Women Index was developed by MSCI, and Japanese companies with high levels of gender diversity are selected from various industries.
These indices are selected by the Government Pension Investment Fund for Japan (GPIF) as indices for ESG investment.

Morningstar Socially Responsible Investment Index (MS-SRI)

The Morningstar Socially Responsible Investment Index (MS-SRI) is the first socially responsible investment index in Japan. The MS-SRI is comprised of 150 leading socially responsible companies from among approximately 3,600 listed companies in Japan selected by Morningstar Japan K.K.

Marubeni Certified to “RobecoSAM Bronze Class 2017”

Marubeni Corporation has been awarded the “RobecoSAM Bronze Class 2017” in the Trading Companies & Distributors Industry. RobecoSAM*4 is a CSR research and rating company which analyzes candidate companies for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).
The top 15% companies in each of the 60 global industries are selected, and are awarded the Gold, Silver or Bronze Class according to the company's performance. In 2017, a total of 267 companies were awarded from approximately 3,400 candidates.

*4 RobecoSAM: A globally famous research and rating company headquartered in Zurich. RobecoSAM assesses and rates each company's economic, environmental and social elements from the perspective of sustainability based on the information obtained from a questionnaire conducted with companies, published documents, media, etc.
